WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

It seems only yesterday I was preparing the last quarterly report and here I am again…………….

So many of our Pearls have been travelling far and wide and it’s been hard to nail them all down at the same time, so competitions and social bowls have been a little out of whack of late….…

SUNSET BOWLS

Wednesday’s Social Sunset Bowls are still proving a winner even though we saw the end to daylight savings. Under the stunning autumn skies (and so much admiration for the glowing sandstone cliffs on the aptly named Spectacle Island, not to mention the cockies perching in the bare branches), we feel privileged to bowl in and next to such a beautiful natural environment, all whilst engaging in some hard fought action and fun at the same time.

WE CELEBRATE MADAME PRESIDENT

Whilst a lady never divulges her age, we took time out to celebrate a special milestone birthday with Anastasia by engaging in a little breakfast of champagne and canapés.

THE STATE SINGLES CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

As reported last quarter, this year our Club President, Anastasia Delaportas won the club singles championship and has since gone on to represent us in the State Championships. Reportedly it came down to the wire in a tightly held clash between her and her opponent - a lovely lady from Gulgong. Ana lead all the way until the last end and was disappointedly beaten by just 1 point.

FRIENDLY BOWLS DAY WITH BROOKLYN RSL SUB-BRANCH

Just a couple of weeks ago The Pearls & Mudcrabs hosted the members of the local RSL. Anastasia and Sandra’s comments summed up the day well:

Anastasia: “Today was such a wonderful day & I think it showcased the Pearls & Mudcrabs as the inclusive, generous & friendly clubs that we are. There was considerable enthusiasm from the RSL mob for this sort of thing to be held every 6 months or so. Hopefully new members will come from within the RSL from this but it is also good publicity within our community….. 3 cheers to us for a successful day”. And Sandra: “It was a wonderful day. I believe Derek said it perfectly about bringing 2 community entities together & making a great day of it whatever the outcome. There was no pressure on us to join the RSL but a little persuasion from us in jest of the day. Perfect day weather wise, perfect company & everyone was very well behaved. Nice to mingle with others & I think they really enjoyed the company & time, encouragement and effort we put in AND I know we appreciated the lunch, prizes and time they put in.”

AND FINALLY…

Last quarter we announced that we were about to commence our mixed pairs competition with the Mud Crabs. This needed to be postponed owing to weather, holidays and availability to name a few, and will start on Saturday, 22nd June. It should prove to be an “edge of your seat” comp with lots of talent showcased. Join us on the sidelines if you can - you won’t be disappointed.
