INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

In March, our Pearls celebrated International Women’s Day with a special roll up day, honouring women in sport. After our game we gathered together to discuss strategies and the way forward, and in particular, celebrated our passion for bowls and women in sport in general.

VARIETY BASH BUSINESS BOWL OFF

What a fun afternoon of bowls we had! The Bash vehicle was strategically parked, the green prepared and the teams arrived in their get-ups, together with their sense of fun and their entourage of onlookers, and off we went. Several businesses put together teams who competed neck and neck against other local businesses throughout the afternoon and into the night. It was a fun but

tense final between BTS and The Anglers Rest with the pub being just pipped at the post. As Anastasia, our Club Captain said: “There was unsurpassed generosity and heart from all these locals! Can’t thank them enough for making the day such a success”. Whilst we successfully raised funds for the Bash, we were also able to introduce our sport to many locals and we have even seen some newbies since return to the green for an occasional roll up with us. The event was a great show of local “country hospitality” and community spirit, and I’d like to think we’d call that a “win-win”.

RSL FUN DAY

Unfortunately our scheduled and much anticipated Fun Day with the Brooklyn RSL Sub-Branch turned pear-shaped when the weather gods decided not to favour us. The RSL invited us into the clubhouse and we were entertained in style by them as we waited anxiously for a break in the weather. When one finally occurred the RSL were well and truly ensconced in the club and it was only some brave bowlers who grabbed the opportunity to have a roll with the remainder as onlookers from the balcony. We look forward to hosting another RSL Fun Day very soon.

AND FINALLY…

We’ve seen the end of daylight savings, Easter come and go, an Anzac long weekend and now the weather has turned brisk and sometimes more than cold, but that hasn’t stopped us having fun on the green. We’re currently negotiating with a few clubs for some winter tournaments and also contemplating a “Bash Cup Challenge”. We’re still awaiting advice as to whether we have been considered for a grant for upgrades to the Bowlers” Annexe and green.

As the weeks rolls on, so do the Pearls!
