A BRAND NEW DAY!
Its only been 3 months since our last Community Advisory Meeting where we dealt with the news that our green was being carved up. This is probably the biggest change we’ve seen since the opening of the green near on 52 years ago. Initially it rendered a little concern and trepidation among the members, but as time went on, we eventually looked forward to the changes that would be taking place. The result, delivered early last month, appears to be a great space for
rest, relaxation and play - and perhaps a little too tempting for some of us - but also another tool to entice new members to bowls as well as a big draw card for the club itself. A little negotiation left us with 5 rinks which is entirely adequate for our small club, but we’ve yet to host a tournament to see just how we will manage the smaller space. Just last weekend the club was the busiest I’ve ever seen it. Hopefully, the long term outcome will prove to be just as popular.
FREE THE BEARS FUNDRAISER
Through RWC, a fundraising day was arranged for the Free the Bears volunteer charity group on the newly appointed green and leisure space. There were raffles and sales, and we were honoured to assist on the green with coaching advice and boosting team numbers. We had so much fun with the small but awesome crowd whilst supporting a great cause, as well as learning how we can help them in the future.
AND YOURS TRULY
I was recently nominated by my club, and lucky to be the recipient of a Volunteer of the Year award. The day was hosted by the Ettalong Bowling Club, and started with a game of bowls between all the participating clubs followed by a lunch and handing out of awards. It was great to catch up with others from around the Central Coast clubs as well as enjoying the company of my fellow club mates who had taken the day off work to celebrate with me both on and off the green.
AND FINALLY…
The weather has been a bit “all over the shop” of late, cancelling many play days. Hopefully we’ll see improved conditions in the coming months.
As the weeks rolls on, (and so does Christmas), so do the Pearls!
