CLUB OPEN PAIRS

Plagued by poor weather, we finally got down to the nitty gritty in the Mooney Combined Club Pairs competition. Our own Karen “Kanga” Cain and her partner Vinnie, (the Mens Club President) only just out-bowled and outshone their opposition of Kelley “The Kelvinator” Mussett and Brendan “Potsy” Potts with some brilliant shots in a tit-for-tat, edge of your seat, final.

“HAVE A GO”

After the initial date was postponed due to horrendous weather, our “Have a Go” Twilight Bowls Evening was a huge success! Members of each club were encouraged to bring a “newbie” along to experience the fun of bowls with the hope of converting a few. The weather turned out to be a bottler and there were plenty of starters that lined up, including some youngsters. There was loads of fun and frivolity both on and off the green, and the catering squad did a delicious job. The evening concluded with several silly prizes given and lots of smiles on dials. As a result, we are ecstatic to say that the Pearls club has signed up 5 new members!

FORGING RELATIONSHIPS

The upshot of having the youngsters turn up at the “Have a Go” evening is that they have been regularly coming to Wednesday afternoon bowls, and their number is multiplying! We are now discussing how to encourage more teenagers to the green for regular Wednesday afternoon (or any day for that matter) bowls. It’s extremely satisfying to see this new generation taking to bowls like ducks to water and having some fun along the way.

THE GREEN IS OUT

We held our AGM on the last day of the green being open, after which, when the green goes “out” we take ourselves off to Dangar Island and pitch our skills against the Dangar bowlers in a “best of 3” competition. At the moment, The Pearls are 1 up. Wish us luck!!! We are also taking this opportunity to clean up and clean out the bowls locker room and have had a little luck in reuniting some old bowls with family members.

AND FINALLY…

Tonight is the annual Christmas Party & Presentation for both clubs, coincidentally being held here at Coastal. (Please excuse any noisy antics that may occur.) Afterwards, The Pearls will adjourn to the annexe for a little light hearted “Pearl” fun. It is a much anticipated event on our calendar!
